At GFIS we believe education works best when school and home walk together. This handbook explains everyday routines, safety expectations, and how to reach us when you need support.

2. Contacts & emergencies

Campus: No. 157, Kovai Road, Varapalayam, Kullaipalayam Post, Dharapuram, Tamil Nadu — 638 657

In an emergency involving your child at school or on the bus, call the Administrative Office (AO) or the Principal immediately using the numbers above. Do not rely only on messaging apps when the matter is urgent.

Day-to-day queries

  • Class matters, homework, leave: Class teacher (in advance where possible)
  • Fees, transport routes, documents: Administrative Office
  • Serious concerns or escalations: Principal

3. School hours

Students should arrive in time for a calm start to the day. Late arrivals disrupt learning for everyone.

Grades Days Timings
KG to Grade 2 Monday – Friday 08:50 AM – 3:45 PM
Grades 3 to 8 Monday – Saturday 08:50 AM – 3:45 PM
Grades 9 to 12 Monday – Saturday 08:50 AM – 5:30 PM
Second Saturdays are holidays for Grades 3 to 12. Holiday lists and special schedules (exams, events) will be shared by the school as needed.

4. Attendance & leave

Regular attendance is essential for learning, friendships, and exam readiness. Please plan family travel around the school calendar whenever possible.

How to apply for leave

  • Planned leave (family function, travel, non-urgent reasons): Call the class teacher well ahead of time and follow any written note or diary process the teacher requests.
  • Medical leave (illness or medical appointment): Inform the class teacher as soon as possible. A medical certificate may be requested for longer absences.
Leaving early or arriving late should also be coordinated with the class teacher / office — students will not be released casually without authorised pickup.

5. Campus visits

We welcome partnership with parents — and we also protect uninterrupted teaching time and student safety.

No unscheduled classroom visits. Please do not enter classrooms during the school day without a prior appointment. Schedule meetings in advance through the class teacher or Administrative Office.
  • Report to reception / office when you arrive on campus.
  • Wear or display any visitor pass issued by the school.
  • Meeting times are preferably outside peak teaching periods, unless the school suggests otherwise.

6. Bus & transport safety

GFIS offers door-to-door pick-up and drop for students who use the school bus. Safety on the road is a shared responsibility of the school, drivers, attendants, students, and parents.

For students

  • Be ready at the stop a few minutes early; buses cannot wait long without delaying others.
  • Board and alight only at the assigned stop, under adult supervision where provided.
  • Remain seated; do not stand in the aisle or lean out of windows.
  • Wear the seat belt if fitted; keep bags clear of the aisle.
  • Speak politely; no fighting, bullying, or throwing objects inside the bus.
  • Do not distract the driver.
  • Follow instructions of the driver and bus attendant at all times.
  • Do not board any vehicle other than the assigned school bus without written parental permission shared with the school.

For parents / guardians

  • Ensure a responsible adult is present at pickup/drop for younger children.
  • Inform the class teacher / transport office in advance if your child will not use the bus on a given day, or if the drop point temporarily changes (subject to school approval).
  • Do not stop or block the bus for last-minute conversations with the driver on the route.
  • Share updated phone numbers so the school can reach you quickly.
  • Report safety concerns (speeding, rough behaviour, overcrowding) promptly to the Administrative Office.
  • Private drop-off: use designated zones; drive slowly near campus; do not double-park at the gate.

General transport rules

  • Food that is messy or unsafe on a moving bus should be avoided; water is preferred.
  • Lost items should be reported to the attendant or office; the school is not responsible for valuables left on the bus.
  • Repeated unsafe behaviour on the bus may lead to temporary suspension of bus privilege after parent communication.

7. Safety & wellbeing

  • Campus entry and exit are monitored; visitors should use the main reception process.
  • Students should not leave campus during school hours without authorisation.
  • Mobile phones and gadgets: follow the school’s device policy for your child’s grade (ask the class teacher if unsure).
  • Share medical conditions, allergies, and emergency medicines information with the office and class teacher in writing.
  • Healthy snacks are provided; lunch is available for those who opt in — encourage balanced eating habits at home too.

For counselling and senior-school guidance, the school offers career counselling for Grades 9–12. Speak to the class teacher or office if your child needs extra academic or emotional support.

8. Academics & learning

  • Curriculum: Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
  • Medium: English, with Tamil and Hindi as language options.
  • Class size: Typically about 22–25 students.
  • Support: Remedial attention is provided for students who need extra help in subjects.
  • Co-curricular: Sports, yoga, karate, arts, clubs; robotics / AI / Python pathways for Grade 5 and above as offered.
  • Competitive foundations: NEET and JEE foundational coaching is compulsory from Grade 6 upwards (as per school programme).

More detail is available on our Academics, Enrichment, and Learning Hub pages.

9. Fees & payments

GFIS aims to keep quality education affordable. The detailed fee structure is shared by the Administrative Office at admission and as updated each year.

  • Pay fees on time through the official online portal when available: Pay School Fees.
  • Keep receipts / digital confirmations for your records.
  • Fee-related questions: contact the Administrative Office.

10. Home–school partnership

Children thrive when expectations at home and school are aligned. We ask parents to:

  • Check diaries / school messages regularly and respond when action is needed.
  • Ensure homework, reading, and rest — especially on school nights.
  • Speak respectfully about teachers and classmates in front of children.
  • Raise concerns early and calmly with the right person (teacher → office → Principal).
  • Celebrate effort and integrity as much as marks and medals.
Our motto: Strive to excel with integrity.

11. More help

This handbook summarises key expectations for families. The school may update procedures from time to time; where a circular or office instruction is more recent, please follow that guidance. For printable use, open this page and use your browser’s Print function.
