Using AI Wisely: A GFIS Guide for Students

AI is your tutor, not your typist.

AI chatbots (ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, DIKSHA’s “Ask DIKSHA”) can explain anything, any time, at your level. Used well, they are the most patient tutor you will ever have. Used badly, they do your thinking for you — and you learn nothing.

Age & Supervision Policy

  • Classes KG–7: AI tools only with a parent or teacher alongside. (Most AI services require users to be 13+.)
  • Classes 8–12: May use AI independently for learning, following the rules below.

Good Uses (encouraged)

  • Explain it again, differently. “Explain photosynthesis like I’m in Class 6, using a kitchen example.”
  • Quiz me. “Ask me 10 questions on Class 9 Chapter 4, one at a time, and correct my answers.”
  • Check my work. “Here is my essay. Don’t rewrite it — point out my three biggest grammar mistakes.”
  • Break it down. “I don’t understand this maths problem. Don’t give the answer — give me a hint for the first step only.”
  • Vocabulary building. “Teach me 5 new English words today with Tamil meanings and example sentences.”

Not Allowed

  • Submitting AI-written homework, essays or projects as your own work. This is plagiarism.
  • Asking AI for exam answers during any assessment.
  • Using AI chat for entertainment during study time.
Important: AI sometimes states wrong facts with total confidence (“hallucination”). For anything that matters — dates, formulas, definitions — verify against your NCERT textbook or Britannica. The textbook is the authority; the AI is the assistant.
